Last month, a reporter from the New York Daily news demonstrated how easy deed fraud was to execute, by “stealing” the Empire State Building. Fortunately, it was just a media stunt, and the property was not actually transferred.
This week, a New Jersey man was arrested for actually transferring some Chinatown property to himself, using fraudulent deeds.
Yip Shuen Ng signed the deeds as representative for the properties, although he had no authority to do so. According to the Manhattan District Attorney, this is a repeat offense for Mr. Ng. In 2007 he pleaded guilty to the same type of crime.
